On May 20, 2027. The new date comes from Santa Monica Studio's own post on X at 17:00 UTC on Nov 4, 2026, "An update regarding God of War Laufey's release date", with a signed statement as its image. The studio says it has "made the decision to delay God of War Laufey's release to May 20th, 2027", thanks fans for their excitement "for Faye's journey through the Everywhen" since the June reveal, and promises more updates soon. Game Informer reported it the same day.

The statement says the team will "make the most of each moment" until launch, putting in the finishing touches and pushing the game "to its fullest potential". It names no development problem, no feature that needed more work and no clash with another release, as Game Informer notes. Any longer explanation seen elsewhere is a guess.

The press disagrees about the length. Game Informer wrote "roughly two-month delay"; Kotaku's headline the same day says three months. By the calendar, Feb 16 to May 20 is 93 days, three months and four days.

What did insiders say before the date?

Before Comic-Con, the timing came only from reports, and they proved close. The insider NateTheHate wrote on Jun 13, 2026 that "the target was first half 2027", and Schreier said in a YouTube video that he would not be surprised by a February or March date, as Insider Gaming reported. Both were reports, not announcements, and May 20 still falls in the first half of 2027.
