Atreus

0:00 Atreus is the son of Kratos and Faye, the boy archer who travels with his father through God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok, and the one the giants call Loki. Sunny Suljic plays him in both games. His mother's plans to protect him and Kratos are what she fights to save in God of War Laufey, due on PS5 on May 20, 2027, though whether Atreus himself appears in it has not been said.

Who is Atreus?

1:20 PlayStation describes him in the 2018 game as "a son determined to earn his respect", with Kratos as his mentor and protector. Before that game came out, Sony and Facebook released A Call from the Wilds, a free text adventure in Messenger about Atreus before his mother's death, in which he hears voices and makes telepathic links with other beings (Game Informer).

Is Atreus Loki?

23:55 Yes. On the journey to scatter Faye's ashes, Kratos tells Atreus he was once the God of War, which makes the boy a demigod; in Jotunheim, murals show that his mother was the giant Laufey and that the giants called him Loki (SVG). The World Serpent recognizing his voice is another clue. In a hidden ending years later, Atreus has dreamed of Thor, whose sons he and Kratos killed, before Thor arrives at their door.

Atreus in God of War Ragnarok

2:51 In Ragnarok, PlayStation says, Atreus "seeks knowledge to help him understand the prophecy of "Loki"", and he fights with new Talon Bow attacks and Runic summons. In Ironwood he meets the giant Angrboda, whose mother wrote the prophecy that Kratos dies at Atreus's hand. He secretly goes to Odin, who asks for his help repairing an ancient mask; he frees the wolf Garm and moves the soul of his wolf Fenrir into its body; and in the final battle he traps Odin's soul in a marble (Den of Geek). At the end Kratos lives, and Atreus leaves to find the remaining giants after his father tells him how proud he is. The God of War Ragnarok Ending Explained page goes through it.

Where is Atreus in Valhalla?

He is gone. Valhalla is set after Atreus's departure, and Kratos goes there with only Mimir (PlayStation Blog).

Atreus and God of War Laufey

2:05 Laufey's premise ties straight to him: Faye wakes in The Everywhen and finds the plans she made "to protect Kratos and Atreus in her absence" are at risk. PlayStation's cast list for the game names Deborah Ann Woll, Christopher Judge, Jack Quaid and Perlina Lau, not Suljic, and whether Atreus appears is not known as of Nov 4, 2026 (PlayStation). Sunny Suljic as Atreus

Suljic was cast at 9, and Atreus was modeled on his stature and looks (The Hollywood Reporter). The team asked him which Kratos actor he liked after a chemistry test, and Christopher Judge later said the boy had the final say in choosing him (Kotaku). Suljic was nominated as Performer at the BAFTA Games Awards 2019 and for Leading Role in 2023, and for Best Performance at The Game Awards 2022. Atreus was also nominated for Character at the D.I.C.E. Awards 2023. Callum Vinson plays him in the God of War TV Series.
