Who is the Stranger in God of War?

The Stranger is Baldur, the Norse god of light and son of Freya, Odin's former wife (SVG). He hunts Kratos and Atreus on their journey to scatter Faye's ashes; the fights against him are listed on God of War (2018) Bosses.

Baldur's curse

Freya, his mother, cast a spell that made Baldur invulnerable to every living thing except mistletoe, and the same spell left him unable to feel anything (SVG). At the end, Atreus's arrow, tipped with mistletoe from the dwarf Sindri, pierces him and breaks the protection; Baldur turns on Freya, and Kratos breaks his neck to save her. Freya takes his body and vows revenge, and his death begins Fimbulwinter, the three-year winter before Ragnarok. The story is told in full on God of War (2018) Story.

After his death

In Ragnarok, PlayStation writes, "it has been a few winters since her son Baldur died at Kratos' hand", and Freya is set on vengeance. In the clip, GameSpot's review explains how Baldur's death weighs on Kratos and Atreus. One of PlayStation's Ragnarok images shows Freya and Baldur together beside a great tree.

Who plays Baldur?

Jeremy Davies, who won the 2019 BAFTA for Performer over three of his own castmates, Danielle Bisutti, Sunny Suljic and Christopher Judge (BAFTA). BAFTA credits him as The Stranger, the name the game first gives Baldur. In the Prime Video God of War TV Series, Ed Skrein plays Baldur (TheWrap); Amazon describes him as "Charismatic, unpredictable and armed with a razor-sharp tongue".
