Christopher Judge

Christopher Judge has played Kratos in God of War since the 2018 game, replacing TC Carson, and won Best Performance at The Game Awards 2022 and a BAFTA in 2023 for God of War Ragnarok. He is listed as Kratos in God of War Laufey.

Christopher Judge is the voice and performance-capture actor of Kratos in the Norse God of War games: God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok. Sony announced him on Jun 14, 2016, replacing TC Carson, the Kratos of the Greek games; Game Informer introduced him as the actor best known as Teal'c in Stargate SG-1. For Ragnarok he won Best Performance at The Game Awards 2022 and a BAFTA in 2023. PlayStation's page for God of War Laufey, due May 20, 2027, lists "Chris Judge (Kratos)" in its cast, though how much Kratos appears in Faye's game is not known.

How Christopher Judge became Kratos

Cory Barlog's 2018 game is shot as one unbroken take, so the actors of Kratos and Atreus had to perform scenes physically together. Barlog told The Hollywood Reporter that Carson's size difference from Kratos made that "almost impossible". After a chemistry test, the team asked Sunny Suljic, Atreus's young actor, which Kratos he liked; Judge said Suljic had the final say, and repeated it at Comic-Con in 2026. By Sep 2017 he had been attached for two years.

Judge chose not to copy his predecessor: it would be "a huge mistake to mimic his performance", he said. Carson posted that Sony had "gone in a new direction", and returned in 2026 as the narrator of God of War Sons of Sparta.

Ragnarok

Judge said in 2021 that his surgery was a reason Ragnarok moved out of its 2021 window. He won Best Performance at The Game Awards 2022 over Ashly Burch, Charlotte McBurney, Manon Gage and his co-star Suljic, and used his long speech to say he had first quit the sequel when Barlog told him he would not direct it: "I literally did quit. I quit." Barlog vouched for Eric Williams, who directed it.

At the BAFTA Games Awards 2023 he won Performer in a Leading Role. For the 2018 game he had been nominated at both The Game Awards 2018, where Roger Clark won for Red Dead Redemption 2, and BAFTA 2019. The full list is on God of War Awards.

God of War Laufey

Judge sat on the Comic-Con panel on Jul 24, 2026 beside Deborah Ann Woll, Jack Quaid and Perlina Lau. Quoting Wedding Crashers, he described Kratos and Faye (Laufey) with "Love is a soul finding its own reflection in another", and said their journeys mirror each other. The same panel brought word that the next Kratos-led game will follow Laufey; see Next God of War After Laufey.

In Feb 2026 he told a YouTuber at Fan Expo Vancouver that the God of War Trilogy Remake was adding "a fighting system", then said on X that he has "zero involvement with the original games". Treat his first remark as unconfirmed.

Other games

Outside God of War, he voiced the King of Wakanda in Marvel's Avengers' War for Wakanda expansion, released Aug 17, 2021. In the Prime Video series, Kratos is played by Dave Bautista, not Judge; see God of War TV Series.
