God of War turned 20 on Mar 22, 2025. Santa Monica Studio marked it with the free Dark Odyssey Collection for God of War Ragnarok (Mar 20, 2025), a Los Angeles exhibition, developer and cast panels, a two-volume retrospective book, vinyl and merchandise, but no remaster.
God of War's 20th anniversary fell on Mar 22, 2025, twenty years after the first game came out on PS2. Santa Monica Studio celebrated with a free cosmetic update for God of War Ragnarok, the Dark Odyssey Collection, out Mar 20, 2025 on PlayStation and PC, plus an exhibition, panels, a retrospective book, vinyl and other merchandise. GamesRadar+ noted it came without a remaster; the God of War Trilogy Remake was announced a year later, on Feb 12, 2026, and the next game, God of War Laufey, is due May 20, 2027. The clip is the remake's Feb 12, 2026 announcement, in which TC Carson calls it the close of the 20th anniversary.

What is the Dark Odyssey Collection?
A free update for God of War Ragnarok, released on Mar 20, 2025, named after Dark Odyssey, the working name of the 2005 game. It adds a Dark Odyssey look and armor for Kratos, outfits for Atreus and Freya, new appearances for the Leviathan Axe, Blades of Chaos and Draupnir Spear (each needs the weapon fully upgraded), six shield appearances and a Dark Odyssey Rond. It is collected from any Lost Items chest, or arrives automatically in Valhalla.
One regional PlayStation page gives the start as Mar 22, 2025; the PlayStation Blog's Mar 20 is the announced date.
Panels and the exhibition
Gallery Nucleus in Los Angeles held a God of War exhibition from Mar 15 to 23, 2025. Shannon Studstill moderated a developer panel on Mar 15 with Bruno Velazquez, Mihir Sheth, Cecil Kim, Rafael Grassetti, Todd Papy, Ariel Lawrence and Jason McDonald, and a cast panel followed on Mar 22. Ariel Lawrence went on to direct God of War Laufey.
