Metro 2039God of War Trilogy Remake
Santa Monica Studio announced on Feb 12, 2026 that the original God of War trilogy (God of War, God of War II and God of War III) is being remade, calling it very early in development. As of Nov 4, 2026 there is no release date, platform list, price or footage.
A remake of the original God of War trilogy, the first three numbered games of the Greek saga, was announced by Santa Monica Studio on Feb 12, 2026, with the warning that the project is "still very early in development." It covers God of War (2005), God of War II and God of War III. As of Nov 4, 2026 Sony has shown no footage and named no release date, platforms, price or developer beyond Santa Monica Studio itself.
The studio's next release is God of War Laufey, due on PS5 on May 20, 2027 after a delay announced on Nov 4, 2026; the remake has no place in the studio's announced schedule yet.

What was announced?
At the State of Play that also released God of War Sons of Sparta, Santa Monica Studio said "the original God of War trilogy is being remade" and called remaking the Greek saga "a frequent request" from players. TC Carson, the voice of Kratos in the Greek games, introduced it on camera. The teaser showed only a fiery logo, and Carson set expectations: it would "be a minute" before the next update, which would be "something big."
God of War Trilogy Remake release date
There is none. As of Nov 4, 2026 no date, year or window has been announced, and the studio's own words, "very early in development," point to a long wait. Any release date seen elsewhere is a guess. It also has no HowLongToBeat times, and its page there lists none.
What is not known
- Platforms: none announced, PS5 included, and no word on PC.
- Style: whether it keeps the fixed camera of the originals or moves to the over-the-shoulder view of the Norse games.
- Packaging: whether the three games ship together or one at a time.
- Cast: nobody beyond TC Carson's appearance in the announcement.
- Price and editions: none announced.

Reports, not announcements
Two reports have circulated, neither confirmed by Sony:
- Christopher Judge's comments. At Fan Expo Vancouver 2026 the Norse-era Kratos told YouTuber Fuzhpuzy the remake was "putting all the new technology in it", including a fighting system, as GameSpot reported. He then wrote on X that he has "zero involvement with the original games," which leaves his remarks unconfirmed.
- A canceled Bluepoint project. GameSpot, citing earlier reporting, says a God of War live-service game was in development at Bluepoint before it was canceled and the studio shut down. No source we read ties that project to the remake.
How to play the originals now
Of the three, only God of War III Remastered is still sold, for PS4 (playable on PS5) at $19.99 as of Nov 4, 2026. The first two were last released on PS3 and PS Vita in God of War Collection. See God of War Collections and Remasters and Where to Play Every God of War Game.
