God of War Awards

God of War (2018) won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2018, D.I.C.E. and BAFTA, and God of War (2005) won Game of the Year at D.I.C.E. in 2006. God of War Ragnarok won six Game Awards, seven D.I.C.E. awards and six BAFTAs but lost Game of the Year at The Game Awards and D.I.C.E. to Elden Ring.

Two God of War games have won the major Game of the Year awards. God of War (2018) won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2018, Game of the Year among nine D.I.C.E. awards in 2019 and Best Game among five BAFTAs. The original God of War won Overall Game of the Year at the D.I.C.E. awards in Feb 2006. God of War Ragnarok won more awards than either, six at The Game Awards 2022, seven at D.I.C.E. and six BAFTAs including the public-vote EE Game of the Year, but Elden Ring took Game of the Year at The Game Awards and D.I.C.E. God of War Laufey, due May 20, 2027, has no awards yet; it has not been released.

At The Game Awards it won three of its eight nominations. It lost Best Performance (Christopher Judge as Kratos) and Best Score/Music to Red Dead Redemption 2, whose Roger Clark won as Arthur Morgan. At BAFTA, four of the six Performer nominees came from God of War: Jeremy Davies, the winner, Danielle Bisutti (Freya), Sunny Suljic (Atreus) and Christopher Judge (Kratos). BAFTA credits Davies as "The Stranger", the name the game first gives Baldur.

Ragnarok had ten nominations in nine categories at The Game Awards 2022, two of them for Best Performance (Judge and Sunny Suljic); Elden Ring won Game of the Year. Its seven D.I.C.E. wins were the most of the night, but Elden Ring took Game of the Year there too. At BAFTA it was also nominated for Artistic Achievement and Best Game. On Steam the PC version won the Steam Awards 2024 Best Game on Steam Deck award. The performers are on Christopher Judge and the score on God of War Music.

God of War III won the BAFTA for Artistic Achievement in March 2011, collected by director Stig Asmussen. Ghost of Sparta took nine Best of E3 awards in 2010 for its pre-release demo, including the Game Critics Awards' Best Handheld Game; a later Sony post put it at ten. God of War II's awards are widely reported but were not confirmed in a source read for this page, so they are left out. The Game Awards began in 2014, after every Greek-era game except God of War Sons of Sparta, for which no Game Awards nomination was found as of Nov 4, 2026.
