What is A Call from the Wilds about?

Atreus as a boy. Game Informer's announcement describes him hearing voices and making telepathic connections with other beings, without meaning to. It is set before Faye died, the death that opens God of War (2018) and that God of War Laufey picks up from the other side.

How it plays

The story is told in messages and choices. It has several chapters with branching paths, saves progress when the app is closed, and unlocks eight pieces of concept art at the end. Whether the Messenger game still runs today is not settled: nothing official read for this page says it was retired or kept.

The Lost Pages of Norse Myth

A Call from the Wilds is also the name of a chapter in The Lost Pages, PlayStation's official lore section for the Norse games, which has two parts:

  • The web book: a prologue, "A Saga Borne of Ash", and the chapters "A Riddle of Runes", "The Creatures Arise", "The Dead Stone Mason", "Weapons of Legend", "A Call From the Wilds", "The First Great War" and "Mimir's Vision".
  • The podcast: eight episodes hosted by Jason Weiser, 35 to 49 minutes each, retelling Norse myths in the game's world, from "Odin and the Knowledge Keeper" and "The Forging of Leviathan" (Brok, Sindri and the axe) to "Like Father, Like Son" (Atreus lost in the woods) and "An Eye for an Eye" (Odin trying to prevent the end of the world).

PlayStation's page gives no episode dates, so when the podcast started is not settled here. Other God of War books and comics are on God of War Books and Comics.
