Sekhmet and Begtse

Sekhmet and Begtse are the two gods Santa Monica Studio has named for God of War Laufey, both hostile to Faye in the Everywhen. Sekhmet is the Egyptian goddess of war; little else about either has been shown as of Nov 4, 2026.

Sekhmet and Begtse are the only two gods Santa Monica Studio has named for God of War Laufey, and both are "decidedly less than friendly" toward Faye in The Everywhen. Sekhmet, in Game Informer's words, is "an Egyptian goddess and the God of War of her pantheon", and she appears as an antagonist in the Jun 2, 2026 reveal footage of a pre-release build. Begtse is known mostly through the soldiers who fight Faye in the Collector Box statue. As of Nov 4, 2026, with the game due on May 20, 2027, neither god's role, voice or boss fight has been described. The clip is PlayStation's Sep 29, 2026 pre-order trailer, in which a red-skinned captor threatens Faye.

Gods from several mythologies

Laufey moves the series past the Greek and Norse gods. The Everywhen is, in the studio's words, a place where gods and creatures "from different mythologies come together", and the PlayStation Store calls it a land where "ruthless gods from across mythology vie for power". Game Informer says Faye must battle gods from multiple pantheons, "all vying for dominance" of a corrupted Everywhen. In the clip, MojoPlays talks through that mix of pantheons.

Who is Sekhmet in God of War Laufey?

Sekhmet is the Egyptian goddess of war, shown as an antagonist in the reveal (Game Informer). Kotaku's description of the footage has Faye's captors bring her before a red-skinned demon lord and a blue-skinned woman who pulls a splinter from her palm and threatens her (Kotaku); Kotaku did not name either figure, and no official source read here says which of them is Sekhmet or Begtse. The clip is IGN's upload of that reveal.

Who is Begtse in God of War Laufey?

Begtse is the second named god. The Collector Box statue shows Faye, Phranque and Rue fighting "Begtse's soldiers", so Begtse has soldiers of their own in the Everywhen. Which pantheon the game places Begtse in has not been stated by Santa Monica Studio, and no reputable outlet read for this page assigns one in the game's terms. In the clip, Kaptain Kuba reads the soldiers' gear in the reveal as a mix of Mongolian and Egyptian designs, his own reading.

What is not known

As of Nov 4, 2026: whether either god is a boss, who plays them, whether other gods are in the game, and how they fit with Odin's question of what happens to gods when they die. There are no hands-on previews yet. Kratos's own fights with the gods of Greece and the North are on Greek Gods in God of War and Odin and Thor.
