God of War: Betrayal

God of War: Betrayal is a 2D God of War game for mobile phones, released in the US on Jun 20, 2007 and set between God of War and God of War II, in which Kratos is wrongly accused of betraying Olympus. IGN scored it 9; it is no longer sold anywhere.

God of War: Betrayal is the series' 2007 game for mobile phones: a 2D side-scroller from Sony Pictures' mobile slate, developed by Sony Online Entertainment and Javaground and released in the US on Jun 20, 2007. It fills the gap between the first two games: after God of War (2005), humans and gods wrongly accuse Kratos of betraying the Olympians, and the story leads toward his fall at the start of God of War II. IGN gave it 9 out of 10, calling it "no watered-down God of War experience."

It cannot be bought today, and nothing Santa Monica Studio has said about God of War Laufey (PS5, May 20, 2027) draws on it; What to Play Before Laufey covers the games that matter for Faye (Laufey).

How Betrayal plays

Sony announced it in May 2007 as "an all new 2D game" with an original story from the writer of the console game, and claimed its animation ran at triple the frames per second of competing phone games. It keeps the console games' pieces in two dimensions: the chained blades (here called Athena's Blades), Medusa's Head, the Army of Hades and the Blade of Artemis, contextual finishers, red, blue and green orbs, and Gorgon Eyes and Phoenix Feathers to lengthen the health and magic bars. Sony said Kratos had over 100 animations.

Can you still play God of War: Betrayal?

No store sells it as of Nov 4, 2026. It was made for the phones of 2007, and no source we could check gives the date it was withdrawn; its director is also not confirmed in a source we could check. It shares the gap between the first two games with Ghost of Sparta, and no source we checked says which comes first; the story order is on God of War Games in Order, and every game that can still be bought is on Where to Play Every God of War Game.
