God of War Ragnarok Bosses

God of War Ragnarok has 22 story boss fights in IGN's guide, from Bjorn and Thor in the first quest to Odin in the last, plus ten Berserker gravestone fights ending with King Hrolf Kraki and the hardest optional boss, Valkyrie Queen Gna in Muspelheim.

God of War Ragnarok has 22 story boss fights, from Bjorn, Thor and the Huntress in the opening quest to Thor again and Odin in the last, as IGN's boss guide lists them, and its hardest fights are optional: ten Berserker gravestones that end with King Hrolf Kraki, and Valkyrie Queen Gna, whom Santa Monica Studio counts with the Berserker Souls among the toughest optional fights. This is the list as published; Santa Monica Studio itself has never printed a full boss list. The next game, God of War Laufey (May 20, 2027), has shown its gods but no boss list: see below.

This page names late-story fights, so it spoils the end of God of War Ragnarok.

The fights that matter most to the story

Thor is fought twice: once in the opening quest, "Surviving Fimbulwinter", and again in Asgard, where Kratos defeats him but chooses not to kill him. Heimdall is the turning point of the middle: Kratos battles him and kills him after Heimdall had attacked Atreus in Asgard. Garm, the wolf of Helheim, ends not with a kill but with Atreus moving Fenrir's soul into Garm. Defeating Nidhogg in Vanaheim helps break Odin's curse on Freya.

The final boss is Odin. Den of Geek calls it the final boss fight against Odin, with Kratos, Atreus and their allies fighting him together in Asgard while Surtr, as Ragnarok, burns the realm. What happens after is on God of War Ragnarok Ending Explained, and the gods themselves on Odin and Thor and Freya.

Valkyrie Queen Gna

Gna is the commander of Odin's remaining forces after the war and, in IGN's words, the toughest fight in God of War Ragnarok. She belongs to the favor "Defend Your Valor", which opens in the Epilogue, the free exploration after the story. Her trail runs through the Remnants of Asgard, the Aesir soldiers left across the realms; one of their Lore Scrolls says she means to regroup in Muspelheim.

To find her, go to the Crucible in Muspelheim, crawl under a gap in the wall on the south side of the large central arena, and climb the Blades of Chaos grapple marks above the lava to a camp with a journal. Gna ambushes Kratos there but waits for him to make the first move, so there is time to back out. Her Power Level is 9, IGN recommends level 9, and the reward is the Queen's Armor for Freya.

In New Game Plus, beating Gna (with certain Remnants of Asgard) is how Kratos earns the Zeus Armor, which raises his melee and Runic damage and the damage he takes. More on that mode is on God of War Ragnarok New Game Plus.

Every Berserker gravestone

The Berserkers are optional fights summoned at gravestones across the realms. Some are duos; the last, King Hrolf Kraki, is their king.

Berserker Gravestone Power Level Main reward
Fraekni the Zealous Midgard, Lake of Nine 5 Berserker Waist Guard
Hardrefill the Callous Svartalfheim, Nidavellir Beach 5 Asgard's Fortitude Enchantment
Beigadr the Feared Svartalfheim, Alberich's Island 6 Asgard's Might Enchantment
Hvitserkr the Bold Vanaheim, Pilgrim's Landing 6 Pommels of the Nine Realms
Hjalti the Stolid Alfheim, Forbidden Sands 7 Grip of the Nine Realms
Svipdagr the Cold and the Sisters of Illska Alfheim, The Barrens 7 Berserker Cuirass, Frozen Flame
Haklangr the Bearded Vanaheim, The Sinkhole 8 Chaos Flame
Bodvar the Fierce and Starolfr the Troublesome Svartalfheim, Jarnsmida Pitmines 8 Hind of the Nine Realms, Gale Flame
Skjothendi the Unerring Niflheim, The Mist Fields (after the story) 8 Berserker Gauntlets
King Hrolf Kraki Midgard, King's Grave 9 Hilt of Skofnung Relic, Helheim's Virtue Enchantment

In New Game Plus the Berserker Souls fight differently, beating them gives Stat Boost Enchantments, and beating the Berserker King gives the Berserker Armor appearance.

Optional mini-bosses

Santa Monica Studio names two optional mini-bosses that got new tactics on every difficulty in the Apr 5, 2023 update: the Hateful, tied to the Draugr holes of the favor "Born from Fire", and the Ormstunga. On the two hardest settings, Give Me No Mercy and Give Me God of War, New Game Plus gives every boss and mini-boss Runic Armor. The settings are on God of War Difficulty Modes.

Bosses in God of War Laufey

None are announced. Santa Monica Studio has named two gods hostile to Faye (Laufey), Sekhmet and Begtse, and the Collector Box statue shows Faye, Phranque and Rue fighting Begtse's soldiers, but as of Nov 4, 2026 there is no boss list, no hands-on preview and no review. What is known is on Sekhmet and Begtse and Laufey Gameplay and Combat.
